Nate Swift is a photographer who thinks beyond what we see. Using his camera and post-production techniques, he aims to transform the world around him, in the hopes of creating a new, colourful reality. His emphasis on colours depicts the vitality of colourful, inspiring surroundings, in contrast to the slow descent the world has taken into greyscale in order to save a few pennies. To Nate, it doesn’t make sense to have such a criminal lack of colour and whimsicality in our day to day lives, especially considering the natural world that we have all come from displays such gorgeous forms of natural artwork that we often overlook, whether it’s from a lack of observation, or from being glued to our phones. Nate initially began his creative journey with the intent of becoming a video editor, studying TV and Film in college to fulfil this, before realising that photography was his true passion of creative expression, working to create visually striking pieces that represent how he sees the world in his mind.

Nate believes that art is inherently political, utilising the medium in order to express takes on feminism, queer and transgender identity, and climate change, in order to bring these issues to the front of conversation, encouraging analysis and discussions to allow people to generate their own opinions and that minorities face. Nate’s concern for this is amplified by his interset in human and geographical evolution, as understandinoughts on these topics, rather than adopting somebody elses - this approach has developed from the increasingly concerning issue of dangerous misinformation online that’s been spread about different demographics of human beings, increasing the risk thg that early human cooperation and relying on nature were critical for survival, therefore it’s daunting to see how divided humanity is slowly becoming, despite being a part of the same cycle of nature.

In Nate’s photography, post-production work is just as important as the photography itself. He taught himself how to colour grade at the age of 14, and continued building this skill throughout his time at college and university, and still has a passion for it to this day. To Nate, editing photos is a form of creative expression, used to elevate work to new levels.
